Yukihiro KOKUBO
1974-, Kyoto Prefecture
Kokubo paints in a semi-private room with a size of about one tatami mat?his own space?at the welfare facility he attends. The facility staff prepare a number of photographs from which he chooses what he wants to draw. In the process of his creation, his works result in unique images which are both figurative and abstract. Kokubo creates his work by applying repeated layering of oil pastels and paints. His style of production is more like thick painting than drawing. The multiple layering creates a strong presence in his work.
