Ryo HIRAYAMA
1992-, Tokyo
Hirayama started creating insects, animals, and robots out of clay from the age of three and began drawing robots from the age of twelve. He draws his own original characters based on manga and video games. Using his ‘Idea Notebook’, he thinks about the title and color palette of his work and decides the palette by creating meaning based on the Five Elements Theory, the ancient Chinese philosophy. The Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011 strengthened his awareness of the need to protect the planet, and this desire is reflected in his work. Aside from his four-hour job on weekdays, he now spends much of his time sketching ideas and drawing pictures with color pencils.
