Hil Blockhuys enjoys using graphic techniques such as linocut, which lends itself perfectly to depicting heavy contrasts and allows for working in series. Her work is always very intuitive and sensitive. The incidence of light, for example, plays a significant role in her work. Long shadows on a desolate beach, a lamppost casting a beam of light beside an abandoned bus shelter: these contemplative images emphasize the role of light. The perspective is also crucial and conveys something about the artist’s position.
