Haruka ASANO
1985-, Miyagi Prefecture
Asano uses 30kg rice sacks, cut open, as her canvas. She traces the creases with Posca markers and fills the surface with colors and dots. Her works are often inspired by her family, including her parents and grandfather, who hold a special place in her heart. Coral Spawning reflects her father’s research on coral and portrays the phenomenon of corals spawning simultaneously on nights near the full moon. Another work, Home of Illness, was created in response to her father’s battle with a severe illness. The circles depicted in her art symbolize souls, stars, or fertilized eggs, representing themes of life and existence.
