Ryo HIRAYAMA
1992-, Tokyo
Hirayama began creating clay models of insects, animals, and robots at the age of three and started drawing robots at the age of twelve. He designs original characters inspired by manga and video games. Using an “idea notebook,” he carefully considers the titles and color schemes of his works. The color choices are based on the Five Elements philosophy, assigning meaning to each color. The 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake heightened his awareness of the need to “protect the Earth,” a sentiment that is now reflected in his works. Currently, apart from his four-hour weekday job, he dedicates much of his time to idea sketches and creating drawings with colored pencils.
